4. SCOPE AND PARAMETERS
Radius 1200m
4.1. Construction of a Concrete palisade fence 2.4m high and 120x350m square.
A. Strength
The required concrete compressive strength shall be a minimum of 30 MPa, determined in
accordance with SANS 5836.
B. Post
The post to be 3.0m long, to take the horizontal load bearing rails. The back section is 140mm wide tapering to
the front to 80mm. The thickness of the post shall be 225mm. Posts shall be spaced at 2.0m centre in a concrete
foundation. The top of the post is angled at 45°.
C. Pales/Paling
The pales to be 2.4m long with two 10mm holes to take 8mm carriage type bolts. The back section to be 100mm
wide tapering to the front to 80mm. The thickness of the pales shall be 75mm. Pales to be spaced at +/- 200mm
centres and a total of 9 pales are installed per 2 meter section. The top and bottom of the pales are angled at
45°.
D. Rails or Crossing Beams
The rails to be 1.98m long with nine x 10mm holes to take carriage 8mm type bolts. The rails shall be 150mm
wide and 80mm deep. The rails slide into the posts and are grouted into posts with 2 to 1 sand/cement mix
E. Fasteners
All nuts, bolts and washers used for the erection of the fence are mild steel. Electrogalvanized (zinc and chrome)
fasteners can be supplied as alternative (coastal application). All bolts holes are filled with cement mortar and
therefore negating the need for electrogalvanized fasteners. The grout comprises a 2 to 1 sand/cement mix.
F. Concrete Footing
Each post should embed in a concrete foundation hole of 450mm x 450mm and a depth of 600mm.

The sizes specified are for firm soils and it may be necessary to increase these sizes for softer yielding soils.
Foundation shall be a minimum of 15Mpa at 28 days

4.2. Sliding Gate
A. The frame for gates wider than 4000mm X 2.4m using a square tubing of 70mm x 70mm x 2mm.
B. The gate must be totally closed with a 2mm thick metal sheet
C. Post for support (typically 76mm x 76mm or 100mm x 100mm square tube dimensions suffice). The post is sunk in concrete
to a depth of approximately 500mm below the surface.

2. DEFINITIONS
(a) “tender” means a written offer in the form determined by an organ of state in response to an

all unconditional discounts;
