1.1 Purpose
This document outlines the requirements for installing a Temperature and Humidity Controlled
Room/Cleanroom at Armscor Dockyard. This specification applies to the design, supply,
installation, commissioning, and training related to the Cleanroom facility at Armscor Dockyard,
NDS Building 5th Floor.
1.2 Background
Weapons Section calibrates and checks pressure gauges from Armscor Dockyard workshops and
the client. A Temperature and Humidity Controlled Room/ Clean Room must be constructed in the
section to ensure that operations are carried out accurately and in accordance with the Quality
Management System.

The clean room shall be measured and inspected for compliance against the requirements below,
before a COC is issued by Armscor Dockyard QAR and the payment is processed. The
cleanroom must comply with ISO 14644-1 and ISO 14644-5, and with the acceptance testing and
hygiene requirements of ISO 846:2019.
3.1 Functional and Performance
3.1.1 Temperature and Humidity
The clean room shall consist of a standalone HVAC System or be attached to the HVAC
system of the building to ensure that temperature and humidity in the clean room are
maintained at 20 o C ±2 o C and 30% - 50% respectively.
Include digital data logging, and alarms for deviation.
3.2 Physical
3.2.1 Design
The supplier shall install and commission a clean room at Armscor Dockyard, NDS Building 5th
Floor. The clean room must be a combination of glass panels and closed panels. The clean room
shall comply with the following dimensional requirements:
Overall assembled dimensions of the clean room:
Width : 6000 mm
Height : 3500 mm
Length : 8600 mm
The largest transportation container or housing of the panels, glass, frame and structural
accessories shall conform to the following:
Width : max 2000 mm
Height : max 2200 mm
Length : max 3800 mm
The largest transportation container or housing shall not be more than 2000 kg in weight.
The clean room shall require structure on three sides; namely, front side, right side and top
as illustrated by the layout below. The clean room must consist of two glass panels of size
1m X 1.5m (Height X Length) minimum and a Double door of size 2.3m X 2.3m (Height X
Length) minimum.

3.2.2 Panels and frames
The frame, closed panels, ceiling panels and other structural accessories shall be made
from corrosion-resistant material (stainless steel grade 304 or marine-grade aluminium) as
the lab will be utilised close to the sea.
The structure shall be easy to assemble and dismantle on a concrete floor and against
concrete walls. The necessary fastening and /or tie down parts shall be installed without
digging foundations.
3.2.3 Doors and windows
The glass panels shall be made from tempered glass.
Doors shall have automatic closing mechanisms with airtight seals.
3.3 External Interfaces
3.3.1 Electrical
Armscor Dockyard shall supply three phase 440V 60Hz and single phase 220V and 115V 60Hz
distribution boxes that are at the most 15 m away from the point of installation.
3.4 Installation
The supplier shall install and commission the cleanroom at Armscor Dockyard Simon’s
Town.
The supplier shall provide the labour, equipment and material required to assemble, install
and commission the clean room.
Power supply is at most 5m away from the installation point, the supplier shall provide all
electrical accessories required to commission the clean room.
The supplier shall be responsible for connections to the supplied electrical supply.
All electrical installations to be done in accordance with SAN 10142-1.
The supplier shall conform to the Armscor Dockyard SHE contractor Management
Practice, document number AK-PRAC-11032 that will be made available to the supplier
during the procurement process.
The supplier shall provide method statements and risk assessments for approval prior to
commencement.
The commissioned system must comply with OHASA Act 85.
3.5 Logistic Support
3.5.1 Documentation
The following documents shall accompany the delivery of the system, documents shall be in clear,

3.5.2 Supply Support
The supplier shall ensure that spares are available and accessible locally in South Africa from the
OEM or an accredited agent when the system requires maintenance and repairs.
3.5.3 Support and Test Equipment
The maintenance and repair of the system shall be supported locally in South Africa by the
OEM or an accredited agent.
The system shall be delivered with a warranty of at least 24 months.
3.5.4 CIDB Requirements
Only those tenderers who are registered with the cidb or are capable of being so prior to the
evaluation of submissions in a contractor grading designation equal to or higher than a contractor
grading designation determined in accordance with the sum tendered or a value determined in
accordance with Regulation 25(1B) or 25(7A) of the Construction Industry Development
Regulations, for a 3 GB or 3 ME or higher. Class of construction work are eligible to have their
