The Contractor must: accept potential appointment as the Principal Contractor, include sufficient costs for health and safety compliance in pricing, and ensure all subcontractors, employees, and others under their control comply with health and safety rules. The Employer may appoint the Contractor as the Principal Contractor for the Affected Property. The Contractor must also comply with Eskom’s SHEQ Policy and implement incident prevention programmes. Asbestos-related work must adhere to South African regulations and Eskom’s Asbestos Standard 32-303, with ambient air monitoring and control measures as required.

The Contractor must comply with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, and procedures outlined in the contract. This includes managing environmental risks such as noise, dust, water, and waste control. Asbestos handling, if encountered, must comply with the Asbestos Regulations 2001 and Eskom’s Asbestos Standard 32-303. The Employer ensures ambient air in work areas conforms to South African asbestos standards. The Contractor may perform parallel measurements at their own expense, but results must comply with statutory limits. Removal and disposal of asbestos must be conducted by a registered asbestos contractor at the Employer’s expense.
