The SABC Platfontein office in the Northern Cape Province is the home for XK-FM, which was officially opened on the 18th of
August 2000 at Schmitsdrift, in the outskirt of the Vaal River. In 2005, SABC, who is the mother-body and provider of all logistics
to the station, moved the station with the old analogue studioβs from Schmitsdrift, and added a new edit suite, and an analogue
main control to a new building in Platfontein.
The growth in personnel and production necessitates that the building requires expansion to accommodate all the personnel and
the additional equipment. The plan is to add an administration building at the back of the current structure and link the two with
a passage. The original structure will be the studio block accommodating all the studios such as main broadcast studio, backup
studio, edit suites, digitize main control, and a new drama studio, server room, a TV studio and edit suites for tv and video
production, archiving studio, and media library. The admin building will be used for all the admin personnel including the XK-FM
station manager and station personnel. It will also house the conference room and news team. The current sanitation
infrastructure is no longer adequate. The undersize tank that is being used by Platfontein office cluster requires much more
frequent pumping than previous years.
4. REQUIREMENTS AND SCOPE OF SERVICES
The service of an Architect as a principal agent to execute the architectural stages 1-6 on the project and include the following
services but not limited to:
β’ Designing building and structure, ensuring functionality, safety, and aesthetic appeal while managing project from
conception to completion.
β’ Concept Development: work closely with client to understand their needs and preferences, developing design concepts
that meet project requirements.
β’ Design and Planning: create detailed architectural plans and drawings, using software tools to visualize the design and
ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
β’ Project Management: oversee the entire construction process, coordinating with professional contractors, and other
stakeholders to ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget.
β’ Feasibility Studies: Review of existing feasibility study (SABC will provide the existing feasibility study i.e Geo Technical
investigation report and the feasibility study) and make recommendation where necessary.
β’ Collaboration: collaborate with various professionals and appoint relevant professionals deemed necessary for the
project, including civil engineers, landscape architects, and urban planners, to integrate different aspects of the project.
β’ Sustainability Practices: focus on sustainable design, incorporating eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient systems
into their projects.
β’ Client Presentations: present design proposals complete with bill of quantities (BOQ) to clients for approval, making

Respondents are warned that a response will be disqualified should any attempt be made by a tenderer either directly
or indirectly to canvass any officer(s) or employees of SABC in respect of a tender, between the closing date and the
date of the award of the business.

12. CONDITIONS TO BE OBSERVED WHEN TENDERING
β’ The corporation does not bid itself to accepts the lowest or any tender, nor shall it be responsible for or pay any expenses
or losses which may be incurred by the Tenderer in the preparation and delivery of his tender. The Corporation reserves
the right to accept a separate tender or separate tenders for any one or more of the sections of a specification. The
corporation also reserves the right to withdraw the tender at any stage.
β’ No tender shall be deemed to have been accepted unless or until a formal contract / letter of award is signed by both
parties.
β’ The Corporation reserves the right to:
