The CISF project aims to address the shortage of spent fuel storage capacity at reactor sites and provide long-term storage for spent nuclear fuel for a period not less than 70 years, with a design life of 100 years. The facility will be established at the Vaalputs national radioactive waste disposal facility in the Northern Cape, designed, licensed, constructed, and operated in accordance with National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) provisions. The project follows the Framework for Infrastructure Delivery and Procurement Management (FIDPM) stages. The Owner's Engineer's scope of work includes:
reviews of CISF preliminary design and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports.
lifecycle cost estimates for the CISF.
project management expertise and support.
