The purpose of this submission is to obtain approval to procure a Service Provider for
Supply and deliver of electrical and plumbing materials in the Western Cape Region for
Once off.
2. BACKGROUND INFORMATION
a. STATUS QUO
Prasa has suffered widespread damage to its infrastructure, which escalated during
the COVID lockdown period. Prasa relies on contractors to carry out the electrical and
plumbing works. This is because the region does not have stock materials in our
stores. Secondly, we cannot account on the productivity of the staff since there are
no materials. All works assigned to external contractors.
b. PROBLEM STATEMENT
PRASA is experiencing high incidences of theft and vandalism at various areas, and
these incidents have a devastating effect on the service that PRASA provides to the
commuters.
The lights that are not working in various facilities/stations contribute to the high rate
of theft and vandalism.
3. OBJECTIVE OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT

Currently we do not have materials in our stores, and we procure them through our as an
when contracts. This is a little bit challenging as in most scenarios, the contractors are
unwilling to help as they are losing on labour costs.

To appoint a Service provider for supply and delivery of electrical and plumbing materials in
the WCR for Once off.
7. TARGETED AREA BY THIS PROJECT
This project will target various stations, facilities, and depots within WCR region.
8. DETAILS ON THE PREFERRED SOLUTION
This project will contribute improvement of the safety of the commuters.
