The scope of work includes: mechanical and/or manual removal of accumulated sludge, grit, sand, rags, and debris; dewatering of tanks and sumps with compliant return flow management; material handling and disposal off-site at approved facilities in compliance with National Environmental Management: Waste Act (NEM:WA); high-pressure cleaning and flushing of surfaces; cleaning of inlet and outlet channels; provision of all necessary plant, equipment, tools, labour, and supervision; and implementation of comprehensive safety, environmental, and operational controls in line with OHSA and Johannesburg Water's procedures. The contractor must coordinate activities with Johannesburg Water operations personnel to minimize disruptions. Services will be rendered at Northern WWTW, William Nicol Ext (R511+/- 8km north of Fourways). Required plant and equipment include vacuum trucks, long boom excavators/mechanical grabbers, shovels, rakes, manual scrapers, skip bins, portable sludge hoppers, submersible pumps, screens/strainers, tipper trucks, skip loaders, back-hoe/front-end loaders, high-pressure water jetters (min 200-300 bar), industrial vacuum cleaners, hoses, flushing manifolds, portable generators, lighting towers, confined space entry gear, PPE kits, spill containment booms, and traffic control barriers. All equipment must be in good working condition and compliant with safety standards.
