Summary
PRASA requires two service providers to deliver daily cleaning, hygiene and horticulture services at stations in its south gauteng west area — west corridor 1 (longdale, croesus and nasrec) and west corridor 3 (12 stations) — for a 6-month period. The work covers the whole station precinct: staff offices, mess rooms, staff and public ablutions, commuter waiting rooms, platforms, bridges and subways, access roads, concourses, parking areas, storm-water channels, lifts and escalators where applicable, and railway tracks up to 200 m beyond both platform edges. Bidders tick the corridor they are bidding for, and NO service provider may be awarded more than one contract. The most consequential consideration is that staffing levels, hygiene consumables and hygiene waste disposal must all be fully costed into an hourly labour rate that already includes saturdays, sundays and public holidays.
Key Requirements
Closing: 23 October 2026 at 11:00.
Corridor choice: tick West Corridor 1 or West Corridor 3 on the bid form; only one contract will be awarded to any single service provider, so a bidder cannot win both corridors.
Staffing: West Corridor 1 requires 20 cleaners and 2 supervisors; West Corridor 3 requires 40 cleaners including supervisors; add relief staff equal to 10% of total staff to cover absences — all of it must be costed.
Hygiene waste: a hygiene waste disposal certificate or licence must be submitted before contracting and award, and a disposal certificate is required for every disposal throughout the 6-month contract.
Registration: valid Central Supplier Database registration and a valid SARS tax compliance status are required for a bid to be considered.
Pricing: labour is priced as a total labour rate per hour for the full 6-month calendar period including Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays; hygiene pricing must cover both refills and waste disposal; grass cutting is measured and paid on the total area cut.
Track and platform work: track cleaning only during off-peak periods under flagman or flagwoman protection, up to 200 m beyond both platform edges; hose pipes are prohibited and any hosing needs prior agreement with the Facilities Department.
