Rule 3 – Buckle Up: Proper wearing of seat belts is mandatory for driver, operator and all passengers in all vehicles/equipment used for Eskom business, on any road or parking lot, irrespective of speed or direction of travel. Driver is responsible for ensuring compliance.

Rule 4 – Be Sober: No person under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs (any level of alcohol or impairing substances) may enter or remain on an Eskom site, conduct Eskom business, or drive/operate vehicles/equipment for Eskom purposes.

Rule 5 – Ensure Permit to Work: No work without required Permit to Work (PTW) governed by Plant Safety Regulations, Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems (ORHVS), or other permit-required activities. No plant returned to service without cancellation of all permits unless permission granted for redundant systems. Live work requires a live work declaration form completed by the authorised person.

Consequences of violation: Treated as serious misconduct under Eskom Disciplinary Code and Procedure. Zero tolerance stance. Contractor violations may result in suspension of contractor activities. Contractor must immediately remove employee from site, investigate and initiate disciplinary process within 5 working days, and furnish Eskom with a copy of the sanction.

Monitoring: Line management monitors compliance, reports through performance reporting; amendments implemented immediately, auditable after 6 months.
