The project involves urgent maintenance works to address excessive leaks in the Cable Tunnels and Pipe Trenches at Kriel Power Station. The leaks are causing increased terrace dam levels and high station water consumption. The goal is to restore the plant to a good state of repair by replacing defective pipework and fittings. The total scope includes 600 m of pipework for each of the Fire Hydrant and Emulsifier Protection Systems (1,200 m combined).

Scope of Work:

• Replace 600 m of 200 NB and 250 NB pipework for Fire Hydrant and Emulsifier Protection Systems, including all associated fittings.
• Replace leaking pipework, bends, elbows, and tee-pipe sections for water and air supply piping inside Cable Tunnels.
• Perform hot tapping where isolations are ineffective or valves are passing, including installation of new isolation valves.
• Fabricate new pipework and fittings off-site: pipes must comply with SANS 62 (small bore) and SANS 719 (large bore), flanges with SANS 1123. All new pipes and flanges must be epoxy-coated and painted red.

• No repairs or clamping allowed; only full replacement of defective pipework (except tightening of fittings/valves if approved).

• Verify alignment, support, and insulation of new pipes; restore disturbed areas.
