The department of electricity and energy and the ipp office have concluded bid window 1 of the gas independent power producer procurement programme (gasipppp), which sought to procure 2,000 mw of gas-to-power generation capacity. Four bids offering a total of 2,830 mw were received, but none satisfied the mandatory functional criteria, primarily because bidders could not provide the required assurances of gas supply. Consequently, NO preferred bidders were appointed and NO capacity was awarded. The department is reviewing the programme's structure and will communicate future steps before the end of the calendar year.
