Scope: You are appointed to undertake a research project to assess and quantify dust sources in the intake airways of South African gold, coal, and diamond underground mines.

Key Deliverables:

1. Conduct a comprehensive literature review, including MHSC project GAP 802.
2. Identify, profile, and quantify key dust-generating activities from surface to working places.
3. Perform personal and environmental gravimetric sampling for respirable crystalline silica (RCS) and coal dust at multiple intake airway points. Deploy real-time monitoring systems.
4. Assess worker exposure profiles along travel routes and at workstations in specific mines: 2 gold mines (mechanised with backfill), 1 gold mine (conventional), 2 coal mines, and 2 diamond mines.
5. Apply modelling techniques (e.g., Computational Fluid Dynamics, tracer methods) to rank dust source contributions.
6. Evaluate existing dust control strategies (road maintenance, dust suppressants, ventilation, traffic management).
7. Recommend practical real-time dust monitoring systems and methodologies.
8. Develop draft best practice guidelines for intake airway dust management.
9. Conduct a hybrid stakeholder workshop in Gauteng.

Project Duration: 18 months (15 months for project work, 3 months for MHSC admin).

Your project proposal must clearly define your methodology, including design, participants, datasets, study sites, instruments, and procedures.

• The methodology must be feasible regarding participant accessibility, site access, data collection, and sample sizes.
• Merely reproducing the scope of work text verbatim will result in a score of zero for the methodology criteria.

Mandatory Experience:

• Your company must have at least 5 years of experience in conducting applied research.
• Your project team must include members with:

• Minimum 10 years' experience in occupational hygiene, specifically dust sampling and exposure assessment in the South African Mining Industry (SAMI).
• Minimum 5 years' experience in applying modelling techniques (e.g., CFD, tracer methods) for airflow and dust movement analysis.
• Minimum 10 years' experience in mine ventilation within SAMI.

Evaluation Scoring:

Points are awarded for company experience, verifiable reference letters, team member experience, and qualifications (e.g., Master's degree scores higher than Honours). Detailed CVs and qualification certificates must be attached as proof.

• You must submit a detailed pricing schedule (SBD 3.3) listing all cost items for the project deliverables.
• The schedule must include lines for: Project initiation, Literature review report, Key activities report, Gravimetric sampling report, Worker exposure report, CFD/tracer methods report, Dust control strategies report, Final best practice guidelines, Stakeholder workshop report, Draft final report, Final report, subtotals, VAT, and grand total.
• All prices must be VAT inclusive.

• Your pricing must be quoted in South African Rand (ZAR), inclusive of all applicable taxes (VAT at 15%) and costs.
• Complete the detailed pricing schedule (SBD 3.3 for Professional Services) in full.
• Prices must include all costs to deliver the services. If using imported goods/services subject to exchange rates, state the currency, exchange rate, and the portion of the price subject to fluctuation.
• Submit your pricing proposal together with your technical proposal, clearly labelled.

• Payment terms: Payment will be made within 30 days from receipt of a valid invoice after completion of deliverables, in accordance with PFMA regulations.
